Celebrating Our Common History: MCC and Refugees
The Mennonite Refugee story played a significant role in the creation of MCC and laid a solid foundation in the negotiations with the Canadian Government to create the private refugee sponsorship program. It is now 30 years old and we need to celebrate this milestone!  Come learn about our work, how your church or community might get involved and listen to a real story of transformation from a former Colombian refugee.

Creation Care DVD Launch

Featuring local creation care heroes, MCC Ontario’s latest educational resource will inspire a wave of action among the congregations who view it. From simple energy conservation choices to exciting solar panel installations, this DVD demonstrates that Christian faith inspires hope for a sustainable and just future for all. Along with previewing the DVD, hear more about how MCCO is engaging constituents on this important faith issue, and how you can get involved.
Presenter: Darren Kropf

A Dozen or So Days at Sanctuary: a street pastor's journal
It is often hard to convey the daily drama that occurs in work with street involved people. In May, Lazarus Rising street pastor Doug Johnson Hatlem, began making a short journal entry after each time he returned home from Sanctuary, the downtown Toronto church where MCCO has placed him. Groups that have heard one or more of the entries have appreciated the insight they give.
Presenter: Doug Johnson Hatlem.

Food Security. Food Sovereignty. What’s the difference?

We often refer to "Food Security” where every citizen has adequate access to healthy food. "Food Sovereignty" is a term used mostly in developing countries suggesting that they have the right to determine a food strategy for themselves. The difference may appear to be minimal, but the two perspectives diverge widely in policy recommendations and subsequent impact on the ground. Learn what MCC Haiti is doing in relation to food issues.
Presenter: Josh Steckley, returned MCC Haiti policy analyst

Good wine, Better wineskins
MCC is poised on the brink of major changes. Our recent months of discussing and “visioning” in the New Wine, New Wineskins process tell us that there is a heart for change, but there is also caution and uncertainty. Can we keep MCC deeply rooted in the Anabaptist church, but explore whether that could be the global, instead of only the Canadian and US church?
Presenters: Rick Cober Bauman (MCCO), Don Peters (MCC Canada), Jenny Neme & Bonnie Klassen (MCC Colombia)

Low German Education: From Western Canada to Mexico to Ontario

Come and explore the historical educational factors that lead to the migration of Mennonites from western Canada to Latin America. Learn about the current educational opportunities for Low German children in Mexico and for those attending the  parochial Old Colony Schools in Ontario.
Presenters: Lily Hiebert Rempel  and  Jacob Reimer  (Old Colony leader and MCCO Board member)

Mining Justice:  Understanding the impact of Ontario's Mining Act Reform on Northern First Nations
Join Lands and Resources Director for Mushkegowuk Council, Job Mollins Koene, and MCCO's Aboriginal Neighbours Coordinator, Lyndsay Mollins Koene to better understand the impacts that Ontario's legislation is having on First Nations north of the 50th parallel.  Hear more about MCC Canada's Mining Justice Campaign.

Standing up to the Challenge - Global Family

Working together with community-based organizations, MCC’s Global Family helps you make the investment of a lifetime. It is truly life changing - on both sides of the equation. Come and learn more.
Presenter:  Werner Wiens

Stuff Happens: After the Trauma
Many of us have had events in our lives that we would consider to be traumatic. But what happens after the trauma. How do we begin the journey towards healing? Are there ways of facing the trauma without it defining us.
Presenter: Michelle Brenneman

Sudan - Still Coming Home
Dan Driedger, Resource Development Director for MCC Ontario, travelled to Sudan at the end of August as part of a Resource Generation Learning Tour. The team examined MCC's role in the reconstruction of Southern Sudan, met with partner organizations, and developed communication tools for raising awareness of the needs. Dan will share stories and images from his trip, and provide an update regarding MCC's 10 year commitment to development in Southern Sudan.

Training for the Skill and Soul of Nonviolence
You lob an insult at your neighbour. Terrorists claim responsibility for a roadside bombing. Gang activity creates fear in your community. Climate change threatens. The bad guys get their way. Nevertheless, your heart is lifted by the skills and spirituality of nonviolence. You are enlisted into Jesus’ way of peacemaking. The Holy Spirit is on the move. God is love. Let’s get organized.
Presenter: Matthew Bailey-Dick

Packing H1N1 Kits
Churches and individuals will be bringing items for H1N1 Kits to the conference. During the afternoon seminar session, you are invited to help assemble kits that will then be sent to northern First Nation communities. Please register for this option when you choose your morning seminar.
